Web Site Resources
There are many resources on the web for artists. If you are serious about your art, there are a few simple things that you can do to increase your exposure online without hurting your budget, which is especially important for artists and everyone these days. :)Portfolio Website - One thing that is very important whether or not you have a website is organization of your portfolio. You should have pictures of all of your artwork, along with basic information including title, media, year, and measurements, at a minimum. Having your pictures organized and labeled helps to improve your dependability and reliability as an artist to galleries. If you can't afford to have a website professionally done, you can get a Flickr account for $25 a year. Flickr allows you to upload an unlimited amount of pictures and it allows you to create sets and collections to organize your photos. Even if you do plan to have a website, this is an excellent way to get started and organize your portfolio, and I highly recommend it for everyone.
Social Networking - The best way (and no cost) to get the word out about your art is to post about it on social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and even Flickr. There are also artist communities such as Deviant Art and Society 6 which allow artist profiles. Also there are many art blogging sites such as Sour Harvest, Art Narcotic, and Arrested Motion which specialize in discovering and showcasing new talent. Writing Press Releases and sending them to art sites such as Juxtapoz and HiFructose is also a good way to get the word out.
